HARMAN COOKIE POLICY
This Cookie Policy applies to all Sites and mobile applications operated by or on behalf of Harman. Our Sites use several different cookies and other tracking technologies. This Cookie Policy explains the following:
- What are cookies?
- Cookies we use and why we use them
- Your choices regarding cookies
- Questions and Updates
Cookies are small files that are downloaded to your device when you visit a website or mobile application. The cookie then sends information back to the website operator or another website operator that recognizes that cookie. Cookies are useful because they allow a website to recognize a user's device. They perform many different functions, like letting you navigate between pages efficiently, remembering your preferences, and generally improving the user experience.
We also use other tracking technologies called web beacons, embedded scripts, and flash cookies. These technologies are sometimes also called cookies, but they are not the same thing.
- Web Beacons (or Tracking Pixels): Web beacons are small graphic images, also known as “clear GIFs,” that can be embedded in web pages and email messages. Web beacons can be used to monitor the number of visitors to a website, to track how users navigate a website, or to count the number of emails opened or specific pages or links viewed
- Embedded scripts: An embedded script is a piece of programming code designed to collect information about a user's interaction with a website. Typically, the script is temporarily downloaded onto a computer from the host website's server (or a third-party service provider's server) and is active only while the visitor is connected to the website. It is then deleted or disabled.

Cookies we use and why we use them
Cookie categories
Our cookies categorized by function. We use four types of tracking technologies on our Sites:
Essential Cookies
These are tracking technologies that are strictly necessary for the operation of the Sites or to perform services that an individual user has requested. Examples of functions performed by essential cookies include cookies that recognize that you are already logged into your Harman account when you navigate from page to page on the Sites. An essential cookie may also record the fact that you have chosen to decline cookies.
Analytical Cookies
These tracking technologies collect information about how visitors use a website, for instance which pages visitors go to most often, and if they get error messages from web pages.
Functional Cookies
These tracking technologies allow the website to remember choices users make and provide enhanced, more personalized features. For example, to enable you to use Harman's live chat and customer support messaging features, or to track whether you have completed a poll or survey on our sites.
Targeting/Advertising Cookies
Targeting/Advertising cookies are tracking technologies used to deliver relevant advertisements to the user. For example, we use cookies that remember what you have viewed on our sites so that we can provide you with relevant advertisements for products that may be of interest to you. We also use cookies that tell us whether you have seen an advertisement and whether you have interacted with it, for example by clicking on it.
Our cookies are categorized by persistence. Cookies can be categorized by the length of time they remain on your device. All cookies have expiration dates that determine how long they remain in your browser. There are two broad duration categories:
a. Persistent Cookies
Persistent cookies remain on your device until they are manually or automatically deleted.
b. Session Cookies
Session cookies remain on your device until you close your browser, after which they are automatically deleted.
We use both persistent cookies and session cookies.
Our cookies are categorized by the entities that place them. We use both first-party and third-party cookies. First-party cookies are cookies placed on your device by our Sites. Third-party cookies are cookies placed by another website when you visit our Sites (our websites). Harman works with third-party advertising companies to place advertisements on this Site and other websites, and to provide tracking and reporting functions for this Site and other websites. These third-party advertising companies may place cookies on your computer when you visit our website or other websites so that they can serve you targeted advertisements. Cookies placed by third parties also collect data about the use of our sites and provide services, such as remembering that you are logged into your account or the location you have designated as your preferred location.
Information collected by our cookies. The tracking technologies on our Sites collect several types of information, including information about your use of our Sites, details about your device, and your IP address. Use of our Sites may include the time your device accesses our Sites, the page you view, the time you spend on each page, and the links you click. Cookies may also note the link that brought you to our Sites and the webpage you visit after leaving our sites. Details about your device may include the type of browser you used to access our Sites, the version of that browser, and the type of device you are using. An IP address is the number assigned to your device, such as your laptop or mobile phone, when it accesses the internet. Your device may have a static IP address, which means it always has the same IP address. It may also have a dynamic IP address, which means the IP address changes each time the device accesses the internet.
To the extent that data collected by our tracking technologies is Personal Information under applicable data protection law, we treat it as Personal Information. If we combine data collected by tracking technologies with Personal Information that you provide to us through our Sites, for example by submitting a form, we also treat that data as Personal Information. For more information about how we process Personal Information collected on our Sites, please see our Privacy Statement.
Sharing Information. We use cookies from third-party service providers to help us better understand our visitors. These cookies collect usage data, such as how long users spend on a web page. Third-party service providers use this information to provide us with reports about Site traffic and interactions. Harman then uses this information to offer better Site experiences and tools.
Harman may also share information collected from cookies placed by our Sites with other third parties engaged to provide services to us, such as marketing service providers, data security consultants, and website development consultants.
Third-Party Cookies and Advertisements. As noted above (“Our Cookies Categorized by the Entities That Set Them”), third parties place cookies on our Sites and collect information from those cookies. These third parties use tools, including cookies and web beacons, to provide services, such as “remembering” a user’s preferences, to analyze Site usage, and to determine the effectiveness of their advertisements and the types of advertisements in which you are most interested. These tools allow them to track certain data about your computer and your browsing on the Site or other websites that are part of their networks. This data may include your computer’s IP address, the Site addresses visited, the type of browser used, your computer’s operating system, and the date, time, and duration of each page visit.
Some third parties operate, or work with, cookie-based advertising networks that serve ads on other websites and online services that you visit. To learn more about third-party internet advertising companies (also known as “Advertising Networks”), visit the Network Advertising Initiative (NAI) at http://www.networkadvertising.org .
